To Run or Not to Run

Saturday is my favorite local race of the year, the Contraband 5-miler.  I have not signed up for the race,  yet, and can't decide if I really want to run.  So I decided to get advice from you, my beloved readers.  I haven't run much lately, and while I know I am capable of running 5 miles, it will likely be very slow due to my lack of training.

Here is a list of pros and cons to running Saturday:

Pros
-It's my favorite local race.  The after party is fun (because there is beer), it's more challenging than a 5k, and the route is my normal running path, so it's familiar.
- Claim Your Journey will be there!  These guys are doing great things for running throughout the state and I would love to meet everyone involved in the movement.  Plus, they are giving away free swag.
- Race fees are only $15.
- If I committ to the run, at least I know I'd be burning some calories Saturday morning.

Cons
- I have not trained.  At.all.  Therefore, I would be slow and not even come close to a PR.  Also, I would be embarassed of my painfully slow time in front of everyone in the local running community.
- The forecast isn't looking good.

At least it will be cooler than an average May day in Southwest Louisiana
- I have no one to run with. :(  All my running buddies have disappeared.  And how fun is a race when you cross the finish line and have no one to celebrate with?

I mentioned that the race is along my normal running route, which goes right past the road to my house.  I know come Saturday morning, when I see everyone running along, I will be jealous if I'm not out there with them.  But, I feel very unprepared.

What should I do?  Should I run?  Will you come run with me?

    1. Thanks for the advice! I'm definitely leaning toward running! I have to register today so I'll know for sure by the end of the day.

  4. I would run with you!!!! However, I think I am pretty much as far away as possible while still in the US in Seattle (Hawaii and Alaska don't count in this calculation). I still say run it!!
