The Friday Five

1. What I'm Reading: Nothing.

I just finished this book, and haven't made it to the library, yet, to pick up something new.
This book was a quick read and I really enjoyed it.

A witty, adorable writer from London receives a letter from a man in Guernsy (a channel island) who stumbled upon an old book of hers second hand.  They start corresponding, which leads to her being inspired to write a book about the island's occupation by German forces during WWII, which had just ended.  I love historical fiction and found the story of the occupation heartbreaking and the characters absolutely charming.

2. What I'm Listening to:

I love, love, love this song.  It must be a new DJ in towns favorite, too, because I have heard it on the radio about once a day for the past week.  And I don't listen to the radio except the 7 minute drive from home to work or home to Target. Despite the fact that it is on my iPod, I get excited every.single.time.

3. What I'm Eating: Avocados and salsa

So, I have a little problem.  I buy way too much produce and can't eat it all before it goes bad.  Last Saturday, I bought a bulk of tomatoes at Sam's.  Then, my cousin sent me tomatoes from his garden.  I would way rather eat home grown tomatoes, but I now had about 20 tomatoes on my counter.  I also had a couple of jalapenos and bell peppers, so I made salsa.  I'd never made salsa, but it's pretty much the easiest thing ever...throw seeded tomatoes, seeded peppers, onion, garlic, salt, and pepper in the food processor.  Much to my suprise, it ended up making 2 big jars full.

Also while at Sam's last Saturday, I accidentally bought 10 avocados.  10!  They come in bags of  5 and I was using 2 in my tomato, cucumber, pepper, avocado salad that night.  I picked up a bag, then decided they weren't ripe enough, so went to find some that were more ripe.  By this point, the first bag was buried under a ton of other things and I couldn't get to it, so I just bought them both.  Good thing I saw this on Pintrest and now I can freeze them before they go bad!

Happy Friday!

Do you get excited to hear a song you love on the radio, even though you have it downloaded and could listen whenever you want?
What are you reading, watching, pinning, eating, and listening to?

    1. Great idea! I was thinking of making individual guacomole packets, similar to the 100 calorie ones in the store.
