1 Week Down, 5 To Go

source
A recap of my first week of the Paleo Challenge:

I'm not starving.  This is definitely not the type of diet where you are restricted to a specific meal plan, so if I'm hungry I eat. Generally, my 3 meals and 1 or 2 snacks a day have kept me mighty full!

I feel good, but not amazing.  One of the things that really attracted me to Paleo was all the hype about how much energy you have and how wonderful you feel.  I definitely feel better than I do when eating junk food and sugar, but still no surge of vim and vigor.

I cheated for the first 4 days.  Oops! We get 3 points for every day we take fish oil.  I didn't realize we are supposed to take 3 grams a day and was just taking 1 pill a day (1200 mg).  So, now I'm popping pills 3 times per day.

I don't see any really noticeable changes in my body.  But I can button my pants with no problem.  Maybe after last week's binges, I'm back to my "normal" size.

I haven't had any cravings. No insane desire for sugar.  The only things I've even slightly missed are cheese and splenda in my morning coffee.

Some people are supportive and some are not.  Thankfully, my sister is participating in the challenge, too.  (Strength in numbers!)  My mom went out of her way to make sure we had plenty of Paleo friendly options at Valentine's dinner.  Others think we are crazy and ask annoying questions about cavemen's ability to make almond milk.

Mardi Gras is definitely not supportive.  Who thought it was a good idea to start the challenge 1 week before Mardi Gras?!?  This time of year is supposed to be reserved for beer, debauchery, king cake, beer, boudin, liquor, gumbo, and beer!

Here is my "report card"/journal review about week 1 from my CrossFit coach.

I was unaware of the fat, protein, and carb at every meal and snack rule.  Fruit with nut butter has been my go to snack, but unfortunately, nuts count only as a fat and not as a protin.  Does anyone have any ideas of how I can add a protein to my snacks other than boiled eggs, beef jerkey, or protein powder?

Variety is what is going to keep me going and during the week my menu got pretty mundane. Since I had some free time this weekend, I cooked up a couple of new Paleo recipes.  One was successful, one was not.  I will fill you in on both this week.  I think with a few tweaks the unsuccessful recipe could turn out better.

Hopefully week 2 goes as well as week 1!

Would you ever consider going Paleo?  Why or why not?
